Be Ready This Back to School
After a fairly stop start year of schooling, the kids are finally off for summer! It’s an exciting time filled with holidays, days out, meeting friends and relaxing. But we know that in the back of every parents mind is the dreaded shop ready for the new term. Although we can’t help you with every aspect of back to school shopping, we are certainly here to guide you along the way when it comes to their footwear! So here are our top tips to getting the perfect school shoes…
Tip 1 - Find the fit you need
We know most kids hate shopping for school shoes - I mean, it’s not the most fun way to spend your day, is it? But it’s so important to get feet measured and fitted, not only for comfort but for foot development. Our trained fitters in store will be able to measure your child’s feet, check the width and finally pick out the best fitting shoes for their return to school! Of course, if you’re unable to get out to the shops for measuring, or your little one is more comfortable being measured at home, you can find our handy guide here.
Tip 2 - Pick the perfect shoe
It’s so easy to be overwhelmed by all of the choice when it comes to picking shoes. But did you know that certain styles aren’t really suitable for certain foot types? For example, we know a lot of parents love the look of the Mary Jane style shoes for their little girls, but for those with a high instep or wider fit, this isn’t the best style to go for and can often cause rubbing or discomfort at the top of the foot. As an alternative, a T-Bar is always a great choice and will support the foot in all the right places. As with the boys shoes, we know that a rip tape fastening is always a popular choice, and certainly easier! But for older boys who have a narrower fit, a lace up shoe is definitely a better choice if they’re able to fasten them as the laces allow you to bring the shoe in and fit comfortably around the foot. But don’t worry about feeling lost when looking through the choices, our fitters will always be there to guide you to the perfect choice!
Tip 3 - Remember the little things
It's easy to breathe a sigh of relief once the school shoe shopping is out of the way - one more thing off the endless list as it would seem! But what about the additional things we sometimes forget about? Well not to worry, we've got you covered! In store (and on our website for some items), you'll find school bags, PE kit bags, shoe labels, spare shoe laces, polishes, protectors and more! And of course, don't forget those trainers for PE - we have a great range of Skechers for kids which will keep their feet cushioned and comfortable throughout all their sports activities.
So there we have it, our 3 top tips to stress free back to school shoe shopping! As mentioned above, we want to be able to help as much as possible, so if you have any questions regarding finding the best shoes for your child, then please feel free to comment on this blog, send us a message or email, or you can even find us on social media.
